Drake leads 2015 BET Hip-Hop Awards nominations

Widely considered the single most commercially successful hip-hop artist right now, Drake, defends his position as he leads the 2015 BET Hip-Hop Awards nominations for a second year in a row.

The 6 God received a grand total of 12 nominations, including for “Best Live Performer,” “Lyricist of the Year,” “MVP of the Year,” “Album of the Year,” “Hustler of the Year,” “Best Hip-Hop Video,” “Best Collabo, Duo or Group,” and “People’s Champ Award.”

Next on the line come Big Sean with 10 nods and Nicki Minaj with 9 nominations. Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole each have earned 8 nods. Future is nominated in 5 categories and it is worth noting that all three of his much celebrated mixtapes – Monster, Beast Mode and 56 Nights – are running for “Best Mixtape.”

The 2015 BET Hip-Hop Awards will be taped on October 9th at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center in Atlanta, and will air October 13th at 8 PM EST. Hosted by Snoop Dogg, the ceremony was originally slated to go down on October 10th but the network pushed it up after Russell Simmons made a high level call and convinced the executives the event should not coincide with the Million Man March, aptly dubbed Justice or Else.
