“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
-Proverb 22:6-
The eagle is an interesting bird to study. Of its many unique abilities, one that I deem particularly special is its parental aptitude. As caring and responsible as the eagle is, it is said that it does not pamper its young ones. So many people mistake love for pampering; but they are not one in the same.
Children who are over- pampered, in many cases, become irresponsible and unreliable; while those who are loved, turn out to be thoroughly groomed. The mother eagle feeds her eaglet for a while, but when she considers it fit to fend for itself, she gradually teaches the eaglet to do so. Some parents never allow their children the opportunity to learn the rudiments of life. This is why we have so many dependent adults in today’s world. Rather than working so as to provide for/ in turn, appreciate their parents for their efforts in raising them, they stay on the sofa, waiting for an inheritance. If those children were taught to be responsible for themselves though, the latter would not be the case. Another thing that the mother eagle does to ensure that her eaglet becomes responsible is to gradually remove every substance that otherwise makes the eaglet comfortable, in its present state. This is not to excuse you from providing for your children, but to make them understand that things don’t come cheaply; they must work to get the best out of life. Child training is not just about giving your children comfort, but also teaching them how to get that comfort on their own, in/for the future. You will not miss it in the name of Jesus Christ!
